Our library was founded by Dr. Emanuel Rádl, who became the head of the department of methodology and history of science of the Charles University in Prague. After 1950 departments of marxism-leninism were estabilished at every faculty of the Charles university and the library served solely for the purposes of teching marxist philosophy. After 1990, when the department was estabilished again under the guidance of professor Zdeněk Neubauer, the library was reorganised to serve it's original purpose again.

The library contains over 10,000 volumes, predominantly of historical and philosophical content and is besides the library of the philosophical faculty and the library of the Philosophical Institute oč the Czech Academy of Science Prague's largest library specialised in philosophical literature.
Our library attempts to offer the reader the entire czech philosophical production recently published. Also german and anglosaxon books  very well are represented.

A reading room was estabilished in 2004 and offers internet acces for students and library guests.
