Our Interest

Research program of our team is focused on study of structure, function and evolution of unicellular eukaryotic cells. Particularly, we are interested in protists living under oxygen-poor environment including important human parasites. Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia intestinalis and Entamoeba histolytica. These parasites possess unusual organelles such as hydrogenosomes or mitosomes that most likely represent highly divergent mitochondria. Ongoing comparative analysis of these organelles may provide a key information for better uderstanding of eukaryogenesis as well as for identification of newpotential targets for rational chemotherapy against parasitic infections.
