- The venue is based at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania – an educational and research institute focusing on Mediterranean agriculture.
- Chania was the capital of Crete until 1971, and has been settled since the bronze age, with Minoan ruins found close by. An important city-state in Ancient Greece, the city has been a place of power for thousands of years, with its large port situated on the route between the Aegean and the wider Mediterranean sea. The city is famous for its venetian fortifications and archaeological museums, and quarters showing off the city’s history as a meeting place of Western, Turkish, and North African culture. The historic old town by the harbour is known for its beautiful colours and traditional streets, while the new town houses most of the city’s current population.
- Chania has both a port and an airport, providing easy access from across Europe. There are buses from the city centre to the conference centre every half an hour. The centre’s detailed travel information guide can be found here: Conference Center of MAICh – Travel information
- For accommodation, we have reserved twin bedrooms that can be booked on a first come first serve basis for €65 per night. Furthermore, we have received quotes from some hotels in the city centre, with rates of around €110 per night for a single room and €125 for a double room. Information about these will be sent out along with your confirmation of participation, once applications have been reviewed.
- Note that Chania can become extremely hot during the summer, with maximum temperatures averaging above 30 degrees. Make sure to dress appropriately: Bring sun cream, sun glasses, and a hat.
