Welcome to the TAT 2024 website<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Trans-Atlantic-Training (TAT)<\/strong> is a series of annual workshops and training courses in Earth Observation (EO), organized since 2013 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)<\/a>, the European Space Agency (ESA)<\/a> and Charles University in Prague<\/a>, Czechia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TAT 2024 training: \u201cEarth Observation and Machine Learning for Disaster Mapping\u201d (TAT-11)<\/strong> will take place from 14 July to 17 July 2024 at Chania University in Chania, Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goals and objectives<\/mark> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The main objective of the NASA-ESA Trans-Atlantic Training (TAT) initiative is to provide educational activities for students and early career scientists in the field of Earth Observations, with an emphasis on remote sensing of land-cover\/use change and ecosystem dynamics. The purpose of TAT is to share and discuss advanced space research methods and technologies through a series of training workshops for early career scientists and students in Eastern\/Central Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TAT-11 will be held in conjunction with the annual SCERIN<\/a> and MEDRIN <\/a>meetings, held jointly 16-19 July, 2024 in Chania. SCERIN and MEDRIN are informal regional information networks for scientists working with Earth Observation in South Eastern and Central Europe, and the Mediterranean, respectively. The networks are organised in the the framework of the Global Observations of Forest Cover and Land Dynamics (GOFC-GOLD), working primarily on land applications such as land cover dynamics and forest cover. TAT 2024 will include the plenary of the SCERIN\/MEDRIN meeting, giving participants direct insight on the regional collaboration and work taking place in the field of global observation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The topic of TAT 2024 (TAT-11) is \u201cEarth Observation and Machine Learning for Disaster Mapping\u201d. Leading experts from Europe and the US will present and discuss state-of-the-art advanced Earth Observation methods in the beautiful setting of Chania, on Crete. Technologies and data from Copernicus, ESA, and NASA missions will be presented in tutorial lectures and practical hands-on training sessions. Lectures and training activities will focus on SAR and optical passive satellite data for the mapping and monitoring of natural disasters including earthquakes and forest fires, and the use of free and accessible cloud computing, machine learning, and Artificial Intelligence methods for analysing Earth Observation data. Working with different types of sensor data and their combinations will be demonstrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Target group<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Participants are expected to be
(a<\/strong>) Early-career scientists and engineers and
(b<\/strong>) Ph.D. and M.Sc. students with advanced skills and research experiences in remote sensing and\/or land cover\/land use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Potential participants from Central and Eastern Europe and Baltic States are particularly encouraged to apply. Application is open to nationals of (or those living\/working in) all ESA Member States. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
