Subha Represents Our Group at SPECTROCAT 2026

Our postdoctoral researcher Subhajyoti Samanta represented the group at the SPECTROCAT 2026 Summer School, held from 29 June to 3 July in Caen, Normandy, France. Organized by the Laboratory for Catalysis and Spectrochemistry and hosted by ENSICAEN, the international school brought together 43 participants representing 17 nationalities.

The week-long programme focused on the application of vibrational spectroscopy to catalysis and adsorption. Morning lectures covered the fundamentals and advanced aspects of infrared and Raman spectroscopy, including instrumentation, cell design, data processing, multitechnique approaches, and in situ and operando methods. In the afternoons, participants moved from the lecture hall to the laboratory for hands-on experiments using the state-of-the-art equipment of the LCS VISIO platform.

Subhajyoti contributed to the scientific programme with the poster “Tuning Crystal Morphology and Pore-Selective Acid-Site Accessibility for m-Xylene Isomerization over Modified IWW Zeolite.” This work explored how controlling zeolite crystal morphology and modifying pore accessibility can influence the catalytic behaviour of IWW zeolites. Particular attention was given to the use of spectroscopic characterization to determine which acid sites are accessible to reacting molecules, helping to connect catalyst structure, molecular transport, and performance in m-xylene isomerization.

Beyond lectures, laboratory sessions, and poster discussions, school also provided an excellent setting for discussions with specialists in spectroscopy and catalysis, the exchange of practical experience, and the development of new scientific connections.
