Alfons Mucha
painter, draughtsman, illustrator, graphic artist, author of placards
and decorations, was born in July 24th, 1860 in Ivančice and died in July 14th, 1939
in Praha.
He spent a long time in Paris, where he was working form many revues, e.g.
Vie Parisienne, Le Figaro illustré, Le Monde illustré, Revue Mame, No(l illustré.
He designed the placards and decorations for theatre performances presenting Sarah
Bernhardt. He was drawing the envelopes for music sheets, sheet headings, exlibris
and vignettes. He was a founder of a modern school of decorative arts. He was also
an author of the first Czechoslovak post stamp.
