Work experience

Martin Ouředníček is an associate professor at the Charles University in Prague, leader of research team of Urban and Regional Laboratory based in the Department of Social Geography and Regional Development. He is the editor of several books, such as bilingual Atlas of Socio-spatial Differentiation of the Czech Republic (2011, Karolinum), Social Geography of Prague Urban Region (2006), Social Transformation of Prague´s Quarters (2012, Academia), Sub Urbs (2013, Academia) and author of more than 100 scientific publications (750 citations; 130 on WoS). In 2011, he jointly edited with Jana Temelová monothematic number of the Czech Sociological Review New Socio-spatial Inequalities, Local Development and Quality of Life. In the past, he served as a member of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science, member of the Academy of Sciences Foundation (Social Sciences Commission and the Commission for Interdisciplinary Research). He is a member of the Czech Geographical Society, member of international network Cities After Transition (CAT), member of committee for preparation of Strategic plan of Prague and from 2013 member of the Czech Science Foundation (panel 404: Sociology, Demography, Social Geography and Media Studies). He is a reviewer of leading academic journals (eg. Annals of the Association of American Geographers, Urban Studies, European Spatial Research and Policy, Journal of Urban Affairs, The Professional Geographer, Regional Studies, Czech Sociological Review, Economic Journal). Hirsch index in 2020 = 22 (Google Scholar), 9 (Web of Science).

The teaching practice is devoted to urban studies, population geography and geographical research methods. He supervises seven PhD students; under his leadership were defended three doctoral, 24 master and 26 bachelor theses. Docent Ouředníček is a member of the Board of Social Geography doctoral studies at the Faculty of Science and a guarantee of Social Geography and Geoinformatics study programme. He is the vice-dean for Geographic departments from 2016.

 

Research areas

The main focus of research is the study of urban geography and planning, regional development, segregation, thematic (social) cartography, GIS, urbanization, theoretical issues of social geography and urban & community studies.
