Aim of project

The transformation of ownership relations after 1990 and the revival of real estate market have been mirrored into the changes of physical and social spatial urban structure. The social environment of localities of Prague metropolitan region has been changed as a consequence of this transformation. Authors of this project think of social environment as a complex of characteristics of social spatial structure and social climate. While, much attention was paid to investigation of social spatial structure, social climate from the geographical perspective has not been systematically studied in the Czech Republic so far.

The first aim is to discuss theoretical approaches of social environment and its application in human geography. The second aim is an empirical appreciation of social environment and its perception in localities of Prague region at micro level.

Research objectives

  1. Develop concept and methodology for evaluation of quality of social environment for different metropolitan localities.
  2. Analyze the social-spatial structure of Prague metropolitan region.
