The Faculty of Science offers two programmes leading to a Master’s degree in Micropalaeontology: a single subject Geology programme and a Geobiology programme, where students take both geological and biological courses. The bachelor’s and master’s programmes in Geology are offered in the Czech language only. The university organises a one-year Czech language course for those interested. Doctoral studies are possible in English. The faculty also offers some undergraduate programmes taught in English, for which tuition fees apply; please see the faculty website for the current list.
Reading Earth’s Paleoclimate: Archives, Proxies and Reconstructions – MG421P45
This course introduces paleoclimatology as an interdisciplinary science linking geology, paleobiology, geochemistry and climate science. Students learn how past climates are reconstructed from natural archives such as sediments, fossils and geochemical records, and how these records are interpreted.
The course is built around working with real data and interpreting it together. It explores how the climate system operates across different timescales and how the past helps us understand present-day climate change. It is open to all students interested in climate and Earth system processes, and provides a solid foundation for further data-oriented work in climate and environmental sciences.
Essentials of Paleoceanography – MG420P08
A basic course dealing with the discipline of palaeoceanography as a whole, covering many fundamental aspects such as seawater chemistry, ocean circulation, and a brief history of the oceans and their evolution through geological time.
Journal Club of the IGP – MG420P09
A discussion seminar for motivated students who want to explore new and unconventional ideas critically, and to broaden their overview of geology, palaeontology and science in general. The seminar is driven by the participants: it is about discussing, not listening to lectures. It runs whenever at least three students sign up.

- MSc: Topics in palaeoceanography and palaeoclimate reconstruction based on foraminiferal proxies (stable isotopes, elemental ratios, radiogenic isotopes), using Miocene archives of the Paratethys and Mediterranean and Quaternary material from the South Atlantic.
